Moving from Victim to Vessel
She says she’s just being responsible, the glue that holds everyone together. But deep down, she’s tired. Not just physically, but spiritually.
She’s the one who remembers every appointment, carries the emotional weight of the house, anticipates everyone’s needs… even when she’s running on empty. She tells herself, “If I don’t do it, it won’t get done.” But that’s not responsibility anymore that’s fear disguised as control.
Where It Comes From
Many women learned early that love equals performance. We were praised for being strong, dependable, and selfless even when it cost us peace. Somewhere along the way, we stopped believing that we deserved help.
So we carry it all and call it love. But it’s really a form of victimhood: living as if life is happening to us, not with us. It’s a mindset that says, “I have no choice. I have to do it all.”
Yet God never called us to be the savior of our home. He already sent One for that.
The Shift: From Victim to Vessel
Healing begins when you realize that carrying everything is not the same as caring. A vessel doesn’t hold everything — it holds what it’s designed to contain. And when it’s full, it’s meant to pour out and be refilled again.
So ask yourself:
What am I holding that’s no longer mine to carry?
Where am I resisting help because I fear being disappointed?
What would rest look like if I actually allowed it?
🌿 Practical Ways to Shift
Delegate with grace, not guilt. Your spouse and children aren’t just capable, they need the opportunity to rise to responsibility. Releasing control gives them room to grow.
Rest without apology. Rest is not a reward for doing everything; it’s a rhythm of God’s design. Even He rested on the seventh day.
Pray from surrender, not survival. Instead of, “Lord, help me do it all,” try, “Lord, help me trust that it will get done, even if I don’t do it.”
You are not weak for needing help...you are wise for receiving it. Your strength was never meant to come from constant doing, but from abiding. Let others carry their share. Let God carry what’s too heavy.
You were never meant to do it all only to be faithful to what’s yours. 💛
