Ways to Support Women Who Have Been Abused

October is Domestic Violence Awareness month. Unfinished Bride LLC mission is to advocate, support and provide counseling for women who are in domestic violence situations. Keep in mind, that not all abuse is physical and our mission is to bring that awareness also. The other and most common types of abuse are emotional, verbal, psychological, spiritual, sexual and financial. This month we will be highlighting these topics and providing group sessions for those that need empowering.

Supporting women who have been abused is an important way to help them regain their strength and rebuild their lives. There are several ways to support women who have been abused, and these include:

how to support abuse victims
  1. Listening: One of the most important things you can do to support women who have been abused is to listen to them. Allow them to share their experiences, emotions and fears without judgment. Listening to them helps them to feel heard and validated, and it can also help them to start processing their experiences.

  2. Encouraging professional help: Encourage women who have been abused to seek professional help. This can include counseling, therapy, or support groups. Professional help can provide women with the tools they need to heal and move forward.

  3. Offering practical support: Offer practical support to women who have been abused. This can include helping them to find safe housing, providing transportation, or helping them to access resources that can assist them in their recovery.

  4. Educating yourself: Educate yourself about abuse and its effects. This can help you to understand what women who have been abused are going through and how to best support them.

  5. Being patient and understanding: Be patient and understanding with women who have been abused. Recovery is a process, and it can take time. Encourage them to take the time they need to heal, and be there to support them along the way. Remember, your opinion matters less than your support. They are not on your timeline for healing.

In conclusion, supporting women who have been abused requires patience, understanding, and practical help. By being there for them and encouraging them to seek professional help, women who have been abused can start to heal and rebuild their lives.

Let's pray for a victim of abuse:
Father, we thank for being a good father that loves His children with an everlasting love. Psalm 56 tells us that you are on the side of the oppressed and abused. We know that you are our refuge and there is safety and peace in you. Satan is the author of confusion and he brings death, but you God gives life more abundantly and bring freedom. For every woman that is experiencing the evil of abusive behavior, we ask deliverance upon her life. Help her to escape and heal. Bring judgement to the abuser and righteousness to the victim. Surround her with love, support, peace and courage. Let her know you are there and you will not leave her broken. Teach us how to be sensitive and compassionate to victims that are experiencing such vile treatment. We thank you for delivering and empowering them to freedom. In Your name we pray. Amen
